The Science Cloud provides a suite of essential shared services designed to streamline collaboration and project management. Centrally managed and available to all participating projects, these services eliminate the need for individual teams to deploy or maintain their own infrastructure.
Shared Services
GitLab
To better support diverse project needs and budgets, the Science Cloud offers both free and paid tiers of access to GitLab. This cloud-hosted service provides robust version control and code repository management. Additionally, teams can utilize built-in agents to run automated Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines that efficiently build, test, and deploy applications.
Mattermost
The Science Cloud provides access to Mattermost, a secure collaboration and messaging platform. Serving as a powerful alternative to tools like Slack, Mattermost offers customizable workspaces, tool integrations, and automated notifications. It is frequently used by engineering teams to receive and discuss operational updates directly from GitOps workflows and Kubernetes clusters.
Science Technology Authorization Realm (STAR)
STAR is an identity management and authorization platform tailored specifically for NASA research ecosystems. Built on the open-source Keycloak platform, it allows for highly customizable login workflows and theming. To ensure secure and seamless access, STAR is fully federated with NASA Launchpad. Access STAR here: https://auth.sciencecloud.nasa.gov
Research Platform
A ready-to-use science computing workspace featuring a cloud-based, multi-tenant JupyterHub environment for scalable research and data analysis.
GitHub Copilot
An SI-powered coding assistant that integrates directly into your development environment to accelerate coding, improve productivity, and support developer workflows.
Requesting Access
To request access to any of these tools, please contact operations at support@sciencecloud.nasa.gov.
By integrating these tools directly into the Science Cloud infrastructure, projects gain immediate access to reliable, enterprise‑supported resources without the overhead of standalone setup, hosting, or maintenance.
