Draft for review. This page is under review before the Operational Readiness Review. Panels marked as open questions are still waiting for an answer. Send corrections to the Research Platform team.
Read time: 3 minutes. Target time from request to first login: 4 hours. Everything starts with one email: support@sciencecloud.nasa.gov.
First, which one are you?
| Your situation | Go to |
|---|---|
| I want a new project on the Research Platform | Path A |
| My project already exists, and I need to be added | Path B |
| I have no NASA identity (I am a partner) | Getting a STAR ID first, then Path B |
Path A — start a new project
For the person who will run the project and its money. We call that person the project admin.
Step 1 — Send one email
Write to support@sciencecloud.nasa.gov and ask for a Research Platform project.
Please include all of this. It is not a fixed form, but it lets the team set you up much faster:
- The project name.
- The funding source for the project.
- The expected budget.
- The project admin's name and NASA identity.
- The first list of members you want on the project.
A request with these details moves through the steps below with no back-and-forth.
Step 2 — The Science Cloud reviews it
Science Cloud finance and management approve the request. They check the funding and the fit. You do not need to chase anyone. The Science Cloud team comes back to you.
Step 3 — The platform team sets up the project
The team creates the project and makes you its first project admin.
Step 4 — You add your team
You now use the RPAdmin console yourself. You add members, set each member's budget, and turn on features such as collaboration. No ticket needed. See RPAdmin — the admin console.
Path B — join a project that already exists
Ask your project admin. That is the whole process. The project admin adds you in the RPAdmin console, with no ticket to the platform team.
Your project admin can add you straight away if either of these is true:
- You are a NASA user (you have a NASA identity), or
- You are already registered in STAR, the Science Cloud login service.
If neither is true yet, get a STAR ID first. See below.
Once you are added, open rp.sciencecloud.nasa.gov and log in.
If you have no NASA identity
Partners at universities, other agencies, and companies can use the platform. You need a STAR ID.
STAR is the Science Cloud login service. It checks who you are for every Science Cloud service, one time. A STAR ID is your login for it.
To request a STAR ID: email support@sciencecloud.nasa.gov.
When you have the STAR ID, tell your project admin. They can then add you to the project.
How long it takes
Our target delivery time is 4 hours. That is the time we aim for from a complete request to a working login.
Two things can make it longer:
- The approval in Step 2, if the funding question needs more discussion.
- A request with missing information.
